Titans! Sharpen your skates, the season is almost here!
Submitted By Executive on Wed 09 07, 22
We’re under a week away from the startup of Tavistock Minor Hockey!  Time to sharpen the skates and test out all equipment for fit before hitting the ice.

To help out the coaches who might be unfamiliar with your skater, please put your child’s name and last initial onto the helmet for U7, U8, U9 and U11 aged kids.  Please bring your own water bottle this season.

The first week of skating is designed to get kids feeling comfortable again in their skates.  During these ice times, the coaches will focus on basic skating drills, puck handling and small area drills.  We will then transition to the tryout phase, where kids will be evaluated for placement on the appropriate teams for the upcoming season.

This year we will be using our improved half-ice boards for U9 (until January) and U8 all year for more realistic game play.

Any 2nd Entry (formerly AE) and Rep teams players will have additional “rep fees” once teams are selected.  If your child does not intend to tryout for a Rep or 2nd Entry team, please make this known to our coaching staff in advance.

Based on registration number’s, we expect to fill the following teams:

U7 Initiation (birth years 2016-2018) non-tryout

U8LL 1 and U8LL 2 (birth year 2015) half ice 4v4 all year non-tryout

U9 LL and U9 MD (birth year 2014) half ice 4v4 until January before transitioning to full ice 5v5

U11 LL, U11 2nd entry (formerly AE), and U11 Rep (birth year 2013 and 2012)

U13 LL, U13 2nd entry (formerly AE), and U13 Rep (birth year 2011 and 2010) – there will be a body checking clinic run that will include this age group during the first skate.  U13’s are included in the event that they are AP’d to a U15 Rep team.

U15 LL and U15 Rep (birth year 2008 and 2009) – introduction to body checking occurs at this age group at the Rep level.  If your child doesn’t wish to try-out for rep, please let our coaching staff know.

U18 Rep (potentially a U18 LL team depending on #’s) U21

Any kids U13 or U15 that are interested in U15 Rep or AP’ing from U13, should plan to attend the Body checking clinic being held on Monday Sept 12th at 8:30pm

We look forward to seeing everyone hit the ice next week!
