The Tavistock Minor Hockey Association coach selection committee endeavors to put in place a quality coaching staff for each of our Tavistock Titan teams. In evaluating applications, candidates were selected based on their suitability to fulfil the following objectives:
a) Provide a positive hockey experience for young players
b) Lead in the growth and development of the player on and off the ice
c) Teach the skills and strategies appropriate to the level of hockey to ensure our players continue to grow from year to year.
The following qualifications can be applied to both the Head coach and the Assistant.
- Strong hockey background in playing, coaching, and evaluating
- Strong interest and commitment to child/athlete development
- Ability to work with fellow coaching personnel
- Ability to communicate on and off-ice requirements to players and parents
- Completion of required certification as outlined by OMHA/Tavistock Minor Hockey
All Team staff are required to acquire a Vulnerable Sector Check from the OPP attachment the corresponds with their home address. More information can be found here:

Head Coach
- Serve as the official spokesperson on behalf of the team
- Coordinate the delegation of responsibilities to the assistant coach and manager
- Plan on and off-ice activities in consultation with the assistant coach
- Coach the team in all games and practices
- Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervision of the players
- Be a positive role model dedicated to the development of ALL players
Assistant Coach
- Assist with player evaluation and the player selection process
- Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting practices
- Assist with pre-game preparation
- Assist with the operation of the team during the games
- Assist with the scouting and evaluation of opponents
- Assist with the supervision of players off and on the ice
- Assist with the formulation of the game plan
- Be a positive role model dedicated to the development of ALL players
Trainer
- Ensure first aid kit is adequately supplied prior to games/practices/team related events
- Be present at team practices and games
- Co-ordinate transport of team jerseys as well as organizing regular cleaning of the jerseys
- Collect medical information for all players and kept on file in confidentiality
- Ensure proper accreditation
- Monitoring and accessing player equipment to ensure proper fit and function
Team Manager
- Works with the coaching staff to communicate team direction to player parents
- Facilitates booking of exhibition games, tournaments, hotels, off-ice activities etc.
- Liaison between the parents and the coaching staff
- Ensure team activities are carried out within the guidelines of the organization
- Liaise with league convenor in any disciplinary matters
- Ensure coaching staff have completed the required qualifications appropriate for the level being coached

- Contact person for coaches
- Ongoing evaluation of coaches
- Association resource for development of on-ice practice plans
