The Bluemont Excavating Novice Reps are the Kincardine
Regional Silver Stick Champions!!
This past Friday the team began their tournament
facing off with Listowel. The boys suffered a tough loss in this game 8-1. The
next game saw the team line up against Hanover. Tavistock scored first in this
one, but Hanover add two later in the game and the team lost a close one 2-1.
All of the teams were then seeded after their first two games putting Tavistock
in 6th place. This meant they had to play the third placed team,
Walkerton. The boys came out skating hard and put forth a solid team effort to
finish with a 4-2 win.
This put the team into the semi-finals against Listowel. After a hard-fought battle, the boys came away with an exciting 4-2 victory. This advanced them to the finals against hometown Kincardine. The titans found themselves trailing by two after two periods of play. Tavistock came out in the third frame and put many pucks on net. They were able to tie up the game with three minutes remaining and then they scored 47 seconds later to take the lead. The final two minutes of the game were a nail bitter, but Tavistock battled hard to the last second and took the game 5-4 and the Championship title! Keagan McMahon was awarded player of the game in the finals.
Point getters in the tournament were Marshall McKay 8(2), Keagan McMahon 3, Luka Verkuyl 2, Peyton Christie 1(2), Jackson MacMillan 1(1), Evan Nahrgang (3), Dylan McCann (1), Camden Bartlett (1) and Carter Cook (1). Spencer Otto was solid between the pipes all tournament, making many great saves. Ryan Zehr and Jaxx Witzel had many great offensive plays and Calvin Verkuyl provided strong defense during the tournament.
